Walking alongside a neighbor to resources
Lead with dignity by listening first
First and foremost, meet individuals with compassion. Learn their name, listen to their story, and give your neighbor the space to share what they need, what they hope for, and what matters most to them. Meaningful support begins with understanding.
Offer options and respect agency
Share resources and possibilities without assumptions or pressure. You can offer support, information, and encouragement while ensuring your neighbor has voice and choice in their journey.
Help make connections with community support
Help turn possibilities into pathways by connecting neighbors with trusted community sources. This can be making a phone call on another’s behalf, giving a printed map or resource guide, or simply sharing a meal together.
Be dependable and follow through
Trust is built through consistency. If you offer a resource, be sure to follow through. When you can, check back in, follow up on a connection, or simply reach out again. Showing up matters - be someone a neighbor can count on beyond the first interaction.
